Purpose:
The Department of Mechanical Engineering seeks applications for quarterly adjunct lecturers (QALs) for the 2018-2019 academic year.
Santa Clara University operates on a quarter system. Each quarter (fall, winter, and spring) is 10 weeks long, with an extra week for final examinations. Undergraduate classes are offered either two times a week or three times a week, Tuesday/Thursday or Monday/Wednesday/Friday for 1 hour 5 minutes per session or 1 hour 40 minutes and are typically four units. Teaching for labs meeting once a week is also desired. Graduate classes are typically held during the 7:10-9:00 a.m., 5:10-7:00 p.m., and 7:10-9:00 p.m. time slots.
QALs are allowed to teach up to 4 course equivalencies (CEs) per academic year with no more than 2 CEs in any particular quarter. Additionally, QALs are allowed to teach an additional 2 CEs during the summer terms.
Generally, course equivalencies are:
UNDERGRADUATE:

4 unit lecture = 1 CE

1 unit lab = 0.5 CE

1 unit lab with a teaching assistant (TA) = 0.25
GRADUATE:

4 unit lecture = 1 CE

2 unit lecture = 0.66 CE

Salary: $1,900 per unit (lecture courses are generally 2 or 4 units)

Basic Qualifications:
Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or related fields.Demonstrated excellence in teaching at the undergraduate level and/or graduate level.

Preferred Qualifications:

Responsibilities:
Teach one or more undergraduate and/or graduate courses in Mechanical Engineering, including:1. Prepare and conduct all assigned class meetings;
2. Assign and evaluate/grade student work appropriately;
3. Be available to students for consultation outside of class;
4. Assign student grades appropriately and submit them on time to the Office of Student Records;
5. Conduct course assessments as required by the department; and
6. Follow departmental procedures regarding employment of graders and comply with university and school policies, including those delineated in the School of Engineering Term Faculty Handbook (http://cms.scu.edu/engineering/graduate/faculty/Faculty-Resource.cfm)

Work Authorization:

General Summary of Position:

The Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Lowell is seeking to hire full-time tenure-track faculty at the ranks of Assistant or Associate Professor; applications for Full Professor will also be considered for exceptional candidates. Applicants must have earned Doctoral degrees in mechanical engineering, or closely related disciplines, and are required to have a record of quality teaching and scholarship. Successful applicants will collaborate with existing faculty members, teach classes to support the undergraduate and graduate programs, develop new courses, advise and recruit graduate students, and are expected to develop a robust, externally funded research program in the following area:

Structural Dynamics and Dynamic Systems: Development of advanced structural dynamic modeling techniques using analytical and experimental approaches (conventional finite element and experimental modal analysis complimented with advanced hybrid system modeling and reduced order modeling for linear and nonlinear systems). Modeling and analysis of structural dynamic systems with applications to wind energy, aerospace, vehicle, energy or other systems.

The Kielhorn Endowed Professorship was created through the generous contribution of LeTourneau University Welding Engineering alumni and the American Welding Society to honor the memory of distinguished LETU professor Mr. William “Bill” Kielhorn. Professor Kielhorn first joined LeTourneau University as a student, graduating in 1959. Seven years later, in 1966, he returned to LeTourneau as a faculty member. For 45 years, Kielhorn diligently educated succeeding generations of welding engineers and welding engineering technologists at LeTourneau University, retiring in May 2011. Despite being hospitalized for stage IV colon cancer during his last semester, Kielhorn never missed a class in his entire 45-year career. The Kielhorn Professorship supports the growth of the welding engineering faculty at LeTourneau University and furthers our mission of training up future generations of welding engineers and welding engineering technologists.
